Method for connecting saddle type superconducting magnet coil

Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain sufficient connection strength and reduce connection resistance without movement of wire materials by electromagnetic force by making equal the sectional area of connectimg wires to that of superconducting wire of internal layer coil and by realizing connection with the connecting wires having the width which is equal to that of superconducting wires of internal layer and external layer coils. CONSTITUTION:The end portions of internal layer coils 2, 2' and the end portions of external layer coils 1, 1' are connected by soldering with the connection wires 3, 3' at the connecting portions 4, 4' and 5, 5'. The connection wire 3 mentioned above is a wire having the constant sectional area, with the one end portion having the thickness D of 1.76 mm and the width C of 10 mm which are the same as those of the sectional area of superconducting wire of internal layer coil, while the other end portion having the thickness D' of 2.94 mm and the width C' of 6 mm. This wire may be processed through the swaging of a wire in different sizes and it is then curved by the bending process as indicated as c in fig This connecting wire has the width C which is equal to that C of the superconducting wire 6 of internal layer coil and the width C' of the other wire is equal to that C' of superconducting wire of the external layer coil.
